Dissection Theater and Learning Center
In the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy, JLGA provided a feasibility study and reprogrammed 30,000 sq. ft. of cellar space for NYU School of Medicine on their main campus. The reprogrammed cellar in the Smilow Research Center includes a new interactive Learning Center and Learning Lab for the Department of Plastic Surgery. The Learning Center can be used in conjunction with the adjacent Learning Lab, through a viewing window and through interconnected A/V systems. In addition to working with the Learning Lab, flexibility has been designed into the Learning Center, allowing it to be used as a standalone seminar room, a long-distance learning space and a teleconferencing center. The facility has a dedicated reception facility and A/V infrastructure.
Due to the project location below the flood plain, the scope of work includes flood mitigation for the critical program.
