AVIATOR SPORTS AND EVENTS CENTER
Aviator Sports and Events Center is an 8.4-acre multi-use sports and recreation complex located at Floyd Bennett Field – New York City’s first municipal airport – in Brooklyn, NY.
The project repurposed four historic airplane hangars by linking them into a single 150,000 sq. ft. indoor sporting facility featuring two hockey rinks, a multi-purpose hardwood gymnasium, a gymnastics center, and an indoor climbing wall. The two outdoor synthetic turf fields provide 200,000 sq. ft. of playing space for football, soccer, and lacrosse.
JLGA wove an aviation and athletics theme throughout the facility in areas including the food court, and the control tower ticket booth. Additionally, JLGA designed a custom graphics wall that pays homage to early pioneering aviators.
