NYS PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE MASTER PLAN
Established in 1895, The New York State Psychiatric Institute is one of the nation's leading psychiatric research institutes devoted to clinical research, education, and inpatient care. Over the years however, the dramatic growth of the Institute outgrew the capacities of their 1920’s facility.
To develop a framework for expansion, JLGA created a master plan detailing the transformation of the outdated and inflexible structure into a state-of-the-art building able to accommodate the Institute’s changing needs.
The first project identified in the master plan was the creation of a new elevator/stair tower for the facility to provide the proper access and egress required. Inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and biochemistry laboratories were also designed for the Howard Hughes Institute along with a computer analytical research area.
